1948 – Dahl's first novel, Sometime Never, was a pacifist fantasy featuring the Gremlins and documented the inevitable destruction of the human race. The book was a dismal failure and is only memorable for being the first book about nuclear war to be published in the U.S. following Hiroshima. This photo appears on the book's back flap.
